Ardell Winston Brown of Milford was born to Clarence and Marjorie (Hirchman) Brown on Oct. 29, 1926, in Grant.
He graduated from the Perkins County High School in 1943 and taught in a rural school for one year, after which he joined the Merchant Marine and served for six years. Ardell also served proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
In 1950, he married Berniece Waterman, and they moved to Milford in 1954 so Ardell could attend and graduate from the Lincoln School of Commerce. They enjoyed 74 years of loving marriage. They were blessed with two children, Chanel and Jerome. Ardell was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Ardell was employed with Sullivan Transfer in Lincoln, Yost Lumber in Milford and the Union Bank in Lincoln. He was a loyal member of the Milford United Methodist Church, a member of the Milford American Legion Post #171 and served as an Adjutant for 21 years. He served as a shuttle driver for the Milford Senior Center for many years.
Ardell was a friend to all and will be remembered for his fun-loving spirit and strong work ethics.
He is survived by wife Berniece; daughter, Chanel Shaffer; son, Jerome Brown (Judith); grandchildren, Joan Robinson Valley (Matt), Jen LaSavage (Mike), Liz Howland (Josh), Josh Shaffer (Chris), and Alicia Petersen (Luke); great-grandchildren, Elliot Petersen, Emma Petersen, and Fin Robinson Valley; brother, Tony Brown (Patricia); extended family, and many friends. He was preceeded in death by parents; grandparents; aunts and uncles.
A memorial service for Ardell will be Saturday, Jan. 4, at 2 p.m. at the Milford United Methodist Church. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions are suggested to American Legion Post 171, Milford Senior Center and Milford United Methodist Church. Arrangements by Lauber Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
