Blackouts to hit Seward

Posted
Rolling blackouts controlled by the Nebraska Public Power District are beginning in the Seward area and southeast Nebraska now and into the evening.
The City of Seward has been advised to reduce its electric load and the blackouts are scheduled to last 30 minutes, to be carried out throughout different areas at a time.
"All areas of the City of Seward electric service territory may potentially be impacted. The City of Seward is unsure when our time will come and will likely not receive any notice," the city of Seward said in a press release.
The city also released somet tips to prepare for the outage.
• If any companies have machines that need to be shut down slowly, this would be a good time to start that process.
• Make sure cell phones are charged in case of an emergency. • If an outage takes place refrain from opening doors or other openings to maintain heat.
Also, if an outage takes place you may want to consider unplugging essential items before power resumes to avoid any surge issues.
Additional information on this unprecedented situation will be provided as it is available. We will have updates as things get underway.
