Crete drops trio on diamond

The Crete Legion Post 147 Stop N Shop seniors played tough competition last week.

Crete lost to Lincoln Christian 15-9 June 16, to Ashland 6-1 June 17 and to Wilber 11-6 June 20.

Lucas Lenhoff, Micah Hartwig, Isaac Voboril and Hunter Betts had two hits each against Lincoln Christian. The team finished with 11, including a double by Lenhoff, who drove in three runs in the game, and a triple by Hartwig.

Betts and Madaux DeLong each drove in two runs for Crete.

Jaxson Dittmer and Ethan Zegers pitched for Crete, combining for six strikeouts.

Post 147 cut the lead to 10-9 in the fourth inning, but LC added two runs in the fifth and three more in the seventh.

Lenhoff swung the hot bat for Crete against Ashland, notching two of the team’s three hits. Owen Kuntz doubled for the other hit.

Lenhoff was also the losing pitcher in the game, throwing five innings. DeLong pitched in relief.

Wilber jumped out to a 9-1 lead after two innings June 20, but Crete came back with four runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to make the score 9-6. Wilber extended its lead in the bottom of the sixth for the 11-6 final.

Crete recorded eight hits in the game, two each by Hartwig and Tadd TeBrink. One of Hartwig’s was a double. Betts drove in two runs.

Crete sent six pitchers to the mound, one each inning, and they combined for six strikeouts.

The Crete seniors (2-15) were to host Seward June 22 and travel to York Wednesday, June 23, for an 8 p.m. game. The team is off until Tuesday, June 29, when the league tournament starts. Pairings were unavailable at press time.
