Eagles battle nerves in invite

Milford golf got its season underway March 24 when it played at the Seward Invitational.

Kellan Kubicek led the team with a 16th-place finish, just out of the medals. The sophomore shot an 87 for the 18-hole tournament. Chase Nitzsche finished with a 91, Caleb Kleint 99, Brody Mach 104 and Kasen Petsch 122.

Coach Travis Yeackley said Nitzsche was the only Eagle returning with varsity experience.

“Everyone was nervous,” he said.

He said the team hasn’t been able to practice much because of the weather. Most of the golfers have played before.

“We’re seeing improvement every day,” he said. “The goal is to get everyone under 100.”

The Eagles are scheduled to play at Syracuse Wednesday, March 29, and travel to Palmyra for a dual Tuesday, April 4. On Wednesday, April 5, MHS is to play in the Friend Invitational.

Yeackley said the golfers will be working on their short game around the greens.

The tournaments at Syracuse and Friend will have more schools Milford’s size, so Yeackley hopes the Eagles will compete better.
