The Seward Fourth of July Committee held its final meeting before the holiday June 19, finalizing last-minute details for the events scheduled for July 4.
Qualifying seniors can obtain coupons for up to $48 in fresh summer and fall produce from participating vendors through the Seward County Aging Services office.

Tim Huntington, a dedicated husband and father, veteran law enforcement officer, Seward County resident and conservative Republican, announced his candidacy for Seward County Sheriff June 19. Huntington is running to bring honest leadership, fiscal responsibility, and modern law enforcement solutions to the Seward County Sheriff’s Office, according to a news release from his campaign. The Seward Farmers Market is back this year on the courthouse square. Homegrown and homemade goods will be available Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon and Wednesdays from 5 – 7 p.m.
The Pleasant Dale legion will host a breakfast Sunday, June 22, serving sausage, pancakes, French toast, scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, orange juice, coffee and toppings for a free-will donation. Serving is from 8 a.m. to noon.
A social gathering of veterans dedicated to reducing and eliminating veteran suicide will be from 7 – 9 p.m. at the VFW, 243 S. Ninth St., in Seward The group meets monthly on the 22nd.
The Seward Municipal Band will conduct practice Thursdays from 7 – 9 p.m. at the Borland Music Building on the Concordia University campus. Concerts are Sundays at 7:30 p.m. at the bandshell. Call Pat Herrold at (402) 641-5457 with any questions.
