Changes coming to construction zone

Weather permitting, on June 28, the downtown phase of construction from US-34 north to Bradford Street will be open to traffic normal two-lane two-way traffic. Eastbound and westbound traffic on US-34 will also be open to normal 4-lane two-way traffic. Both N-15 and US-34 will remain open to traffic through July 7.
Beginning on July 8, the southbound lane of N-15 will be closed from US-34 to Pinewood Avenue with southbound only traffic being maintained in the northbound lane. Northbound traffic will be detoured using US-34, 2nd Street and Pinewood Ave. Trucks will be detoured using the truck route N-66, N-79 and US-34.
This phase of construction is expected to be complete prior to Oct. 1.
Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, put phones down and pay attention to construction and detour signs.

It is exciting that we are again telling you about the Annual Red, White & Bloom Garden Tour in the Seward community. And, we can honestly say this one might be the most beautiful ever, but of course we feel that way every year, organizer Pat Coldiron said. Tickets may be purchased at Liberty House Bed and Breakfast in Seward. The tour is Saturday, June 29.

Central Valley Ag photo contest open until July 10

Central Valley Ag (CVA) cooperative is asking you to share your story by entering CVA’s 7th annual photo contest. Contest is open until July 10. Photos can be entered into three categories: Beauty of the Midwest, Generations on the Farm, and Livin’ with Livestock. Photos can exhibit harvest, livestock, planting, equipment, life on the farm and more. There is no shortage of topics to showcase in the agriculture industry. TOMORROW - Buddy check

A social gathering of veterans dedicated to reducing and eliminating veteran suicide will be from 7 – 9 p.m. at the VFW, 243 S. Ninth St., in Seward The group meets monthly on the 22nd.

TOMORROW - Farmers market open for business

The Seward Farmers Market will be open Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at the Seward County Fairgrounds, east of the horseshoe pits. Among the items now ready are rhubarb, lettuce, peas, beets and mulberries.

SUNDAY - Trains running

The Chippewa Northwestern Railway trains will be running Sunday, June 23, from 1:30–4 p.m. at the Seward County Historical Museum in Goehner. The museum is open from 1:30-5 p.m.

SUNDAY - Band concert

The Seward Municipal Band will play its weekly concert Sunday, June 23, at 7:30 p.m. at the bandshell. In case of inclement weather, check the band's Facebook page or Seward Community Chat for changes in venue.

SUNDAY - Breakfast served June 23 at Pleasant Dale legion

The Pleasant Dale American Legion breakfast will be Sunday, June 23, at the legion hall from 8 a.m. to noon. Sausage, French toast, pancakes, scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, coffee and juice will be available for a free-will donation.

Talent competition at Saline County Fair

The Crete Lions Club and Saline County Fair will be hosting an all talent competition on July 17 at Tuxedo Park in Crete. To register for the competition contact Janette Drohman at (402) 429-0642.

Swinging clubs for 25 years of kindness in action
Registration for the all ages Crete Lions Club 25th annual fundraising golf tournament is now open. Proceeds from the July 13 tournament at College Heights Country Club will fund the club's causes which includes supporting local youth.

Registration is now open for the Crete Lions Club's 25th annual fundraising golf tournament.
The July 13 tournament at College Heights Country Club will begin at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.
Proceeds from the tournament will be used to support the Lions Club causes. Lions Club is a service organization dedicated to global causes beginning at home in their community. Globally there are 1.4 million members taking on some of the biggest challenges facing humanity. Causes include supporting youth to become leaders, vision and prevention of avoidable blindness, improving food security and more.

Malcolm juniors sweep Blair

The Malcolm Legion juniors had no trouble in two games at Blair June 20, winning 15-2 and 12-3. In game one, Justin Wisnieski went 3-4 with a double and three RBIs. Carson Frank hit a home run, as well. In game two, Frank went 2-2 and scored three runs.

Milford juniors get road win

The Milford Post 171 juniors brought home a 12-6 win from Dwight June 20. Westin DeLong went 4-5 with a triple and drove in three runs. Brett Bousquet and Zach Parra had two hits each.

UBC falls on road

The Utica-Beaver Crossing seniors couldn't recover from a big first inning by Sutton June 20, falling 16-1. UBC had two hits - a double by Jackson Wellman and a single by Ayden Konken.

Seward seniors top Auburn

The Seward Legion Post 33 ZKE Storage seniors beat Auburn 4-2 June 20. Braiden Herring doubled and drove in two runs for Seward. Reggie Sukup also doubled.

The memorial service for Marylou Schneiderman will be Saturday, June 22, at 10 a.m. at Zabka-Perdue Funeral Home in Seward. A private family inurnment and graveside service is planned.

LIESENER, Shirley

Visitation for Shirley Liesener will be Sunday, June 23, from 1-3 p.m. at Volzke Funeral Home in Seward. The funeral service will be Monday, June 24, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward. Committal will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Volzke Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
