Matzke honored for service

Charles (Chuck) Matzke of Seward was recognized for his 56 years of consecutive membership in the Seward Rotary Club. Matzke has served as the Seward Rotary Club president, volunteered as chair for many of the club’s committees and is still an active volunteer in the Seward Rotary Club. Nebraska senators advanced a bill that would require just one license plate on vehicles. LB279 would take effect in 2029 and eliminate the front license plates.

Lexi Rodriguez, a former Husker and current member of LOVB Omaha is a finalist for the AAU Sullivan Award. The award is presented to the most exceptional athlete at any level from college up.

Bulldogs finish 7-1 in Arizona

All three phases were instrumental in the final day of the Tucson Invite as the Concordia softball team finished with two victories over Salve Regina University (R.I), 6-2, and Simpson University (Calif.), 8-3 on Thursday (March 13). CU leaned on Megan Eurich’s 8.1 innings pitched and scored 14 runs in the two contests at Lincoln Park.
Head Coach Brock Culler and the Bulldogs have piled up a 15-7 non-conference showing and went 7-1 in the Grand Canyon State.

SUNDAY - VFW Post breakfast buffet

The Seward VFW Post will offer a breakfast buffet the third Sunday of each month, serving from 8 to 11 a.m. Donations help support all of the group’s projects. The public is welcome.

SUNDAY - Casting call

Auditions for the play “Arsenic and Old Lace” at the Olde Glory Theatre will be Sunday, March 16, at 6 p.m. at the theatre. There will be roles for 11 men and three women, with performance dates June 18-22. For more information, contact Hannah Watt at (641) 247-1207.

MONDAY - Free Seward Rotary Club movie

“Garfield The Movie” was rescheduled to Monday, March 17, at 1 p.m. The free movie at the Seward Rivoli Theater is open to all ages. The movie is PG rated, and the Rotary Club asks guests to bring canned goods or toiletries items to be donated to area pantries. The Rotary requests all children to be accompanied by an adult.

TRUHLICKA, Michael

The recitation of the rosary for Michael Truhlicka will be Friday, March 14, at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Seward. Inurnment will follow at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church Cemetery in rural Bee.

GLAWATZ, Roger

The funeral service for Roger Glawatz will be Friday, March 14, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward. Graveside service and interment will be at 11:30 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery, Seward.

CRONQUIST, William

A celebration of life for Billy Cronquist Jr. will be Saturday, March 15, at 7 p.m. at the Goehner Volunteer Fire Department.
