James David Schildt, of Pleasant Dale, was born Jan. 1, 1978, in Lincoln, to Carol (Viets) and Larry Schildt, also of Pleasant Dale.

He was baptized, confirmed, married and a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church (Middle Creek) in Seward. He graduated from Seward High School in 1996. Following high school, he attended Southeast Community College in Milford, earning associates degrees in both diesel mechanics and building construction. On Aug. 17, 2002, James was united in marriage to Brooke Madsen at Immanuel Lutheran Church (Middle Creek). He was a loving husband to Brooke and proud and supportive father to their children, Phillip, Sydney, Ashlyn and Myranda. He enjoyed catching for his daughters for softball and supporting all of his children’s activities, and there were a lot. James was a lifelong farmer in Pleasant Dale with his father and family. He always had a genuine interest and willingness in helping his family and friends and excelled in carpentry and created many heirlooms that his family will cherish. He also enjoyed welding, bulldozing, woodworking and his cows. He liked taking long road trips and cutting trees. James passed away May 12, 2022, in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 44 years, 4 months and 11 days.

He is survived by his wife, Brooke Schildt, of Pleasant Dale; children, Phillip, Sydney, Ashlyn and Myranda; parents, Carol and Larry Schildt, Pleasant Dale; siblings, Mike Schildt and Rod (Kathi) Schildt, Angie (Keith) Burkhardt all of Pleasant Dale; sister-in-law, Alex Madsen; aunts, Wilma Mook and Joan Schildt both of Seward; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. James was preceded in death by his grandparents, August and Ida Schildt, Elmer and Hilda Viets; aunts and uncles, Gene and Evelyn Fougeron, Leslie Schildt, Ralph Mook, and Dale and Norma Ficke.

Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, at Volzke Funeral Home in Seward with a gathering of family and friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The funeral service is at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 19, at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward with interment at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery (Middle Creek) in Seward.
