Jay Loren Dunlap was born Nov. 15, 1930, in Douglas, to Maynard and Helen (Jobes) Dunlap. Jay had an identical twin, Paul, and two older brothers, Don and Alan.
As a young man, Jay attended Douglas Public School and graduated with his Class of 1948. He attended Nebraska Wesleyan for two years and then served in the Navy for an additional two years. After concluding his service, he continued his education at the University of Nebraska and earned his law degree, winning the Moot Court competition with his twin brother, Paul.
During his time at UNL, Jay met his future wife, Shirley Sullivan, at the Freshman Hop. They were united in marriage at the United Methodist Church in Norfolk, Virginia, in 1953. Upon graduation in 1956, they eventually moved to Milford, where Jay worked with his brother, Alan, who had purchased Farmers & Merchants Bank.
In 1965, Jay and his brother, Alan, had the opportunity to buy Union Bank and Trust. Jay worked at Union Bank and Trust for 50 years, served as CEO for 20 years and maintained an office there until the age of 93. Jay and Shirley had four children, Suzie, Debbie, Angie and Mike. Jay was a man that lived his values of Faith, Family, Friends, Work, and he was an example to all of us.
Jay is survived by his wife, Shirley; three children, Debbie (Steve), Angie, and Mike (Terri); grandchildren, Amber, Dan (Molly), Scott (Heidi), Alicia (Anton), Jason (Kayla), Matthew (Maggie), Jacob (Emily), Hunter and his girlfriend Franzi; great-grandchildren, Clayton, Jaxton, Zoey Bartels, Kyler Bartels, Oliver, Penelope, and Mateo Diy, Elijah and Emilia Muhleisen, Izzy and James Dunlap.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; daughter, Suzie, and son-in-law, Dan Muhleisen.
Visitation is Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 1 p.m. at the Milford United Methodist Church, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 2 p.m. There will be a private family burial at the Blue Mound Cemetery, Milford. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Milford United Methodist Church, Little Leaps of Faith Daycare or the Center for People in Lincoln.
