Juniors fall in two games

The Crete Nestle Purina Legion Post 147 juniors rallied late but couldn’t get past Waverly June 28, losing 8-5.

Roncalli was too much for Seward June 29, getting a 13-1 win.

Against Waverly, Crete scored four runs in the fourth inning to cut into Waverly’s lead.

Mason Stone led off wiht a single and took second on a wild pitch. Kenner Svitak drew a walk, followed by a single by Everett Heath that drove in Stone.

Patton Svitak singled to drive in Kenner Svitak and move Heath to second. Cale Burkhardt grounded into a fielder’s choice that recorded an out at third.

Alex Eltze was hit by a pitch, and Patton Svitek scored on the throw. Burhkardt then scored on a passed ball.

Eltze was 2-2 at the plate in addition to being hit by a pitch.

Roncalli pitching held Crete to just four hits, all singles, the next night. Roncalli scored 11 runs in the second inning to put the game out of reach.

Crete (1-15) was to host York July 2 in the regular season finale. Because of the early deadline for July 4, Saturday’s results will be in the July 13 paper.

Districts start next week. Crete is in the Area 1 tournament at Auburn. Brackets were not available at press time.
