Leon Alan Baker was born Sept. 13, 1954, to Francis and Iona (Hansen) Baker in Seward.
He attended Seward High School, graduating in 1972. On Dec. 5, 1981, Leon was united in marriage to Becky Meyer at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward. He worked as a mechanic, service station owner and sold truck parts before retiring in 2018. While in school, he was involved in music, theater and Boy Scouts. As a young man, he enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and was a great bowler.
For several years, Leon coached both daughters in softball. Later he began flying remote control airplanes and was a member of the York Thunderbirds. In 2008, he planted a vineyard, growing grapes and making his own wine. He was very handy and could fix anything. Leon passed away Jan. 11, 2025, in Seward, at the age of 70.
He is survived by his wife, Becky Baker of Seward; children, Stacy (Geoff) Marberry of Marble Falls, Texas, Andrew (Kayla) Baker of Seward and Jessica (Logan) Hayman of Palmer; grandchildren, Maci and Haley Ragsdale, Havannah Stockton, Levi Baker, and Teagan, Zeke and Caroline Hayman; siblings, Garry Baker of Lincoln, David (Linda) Baker of Lincoln, Richard Baker of Seward; mother-in-law, Mary Meyer of Seward; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Cindy and James Riley of Seward; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation is Wednesday, Jan. 15, from 3 – 5 p.m. at Volzke Funeral Home in Seward with a gathering of family and friends from 6:30 – 8 p.m.. The Baker family kindly requests Nebraska Cornhusker attire to be worn for visitation only. The funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward with private committal at the Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Seward Memorial Library Foundation or Hospice of Nebraska.
