Maxine B. Roth

Maxine Barbara Roth was born July 15, 1935, in Amenia, North Dakota, to Sam and Clara (Nitzsche) Roth, the second of four children and passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at her home in Milford at the age of 85. 

As a young girl, Maxine attended and graduated from school in Hesston, Kansas, with the class of 1953. She furthered her education by attending Hesston College, majoring in education. She was united in marriage to William E. Roth on Aug. 2, 1959, and to this union, two children, Arlene and Galen, were born. They moved to West Point where Maxine was a substitute teacher in the West Point Public Schools and later taught in a rural school for several years. Besides being a stay-at-home mom, Maxine also taught piano and organ lessons for many years. They purchased and operated together a greenhouse and garden center in West Point and enjoyed many years of serving customers and growing plants and landscape material. In their retirement, they thoroughly enjoyed continuing their gardening and taking occasional trips to see family in Oregon. Maxine and Bill were caregivers for her aging mother until her eventual death at the age of 100 in 2004. She was a long-time member of the Beemer Mennonite Church. 

Survivors include her husband, William “Bill” of Milford; daughter and son-in-law, Arlene and Ronald Ehrlich, Marion, Kansas; son and daughter-in-law, Galen and Lavonne Roth, Milford; six grandchildren, Lee Ehrlich, West Point, Casandra (Trevor) Powers, Omaha, Jessica Roth, Omaha, Kenny (Emily) Pewett, Omaha, Quinn (Stephanie) Saunders, Milford, Brandi Saunders, Omaha; five great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Grace Roth, Lebanon, Oregon, Marilyn Sherman, also of Lebanon, Laura Mae Eichelberger, Albany, Lois and Glen Oesch, Salem, Oregon, Marlene and Merle Kauffman, Fontana, California, Lauren Roth, Yakima, Washington, and Lyle Roth, Tofield, Alberta; many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. 

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sister-in-law, Don Roth, Gene and Barbara Roth; and sister and brother-in-law, Clarice and Harold Troyer.

A graveside service was March 6 at Blue Mound Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Beemer Mennonite Church of Beemer. Condolences may be left for the family at  www.lauberfh.com.
