Milford archers kick off season

Milford High’s archery team began its 2023 season Jan. 21 with a strong showing at the Omaha Christian tournament.

Autumn Wissenburg led the way by defending her 2022 state girls title, winning both the high school girls division and the high overall girl score. Her score of 288 out of 300 arrows was the highest for both boys and girls and included back-to-back perfect 50 scores in the middle of the six rounds of shooting.

Ayla Salistean shot a 282 to claim second place in the middle school girls division. Jay Wissenburg also shot a 282 to place third in the high school boys division and third in overall boys.

Aydenn Freeman placed 10th in the high school division with a score of 267, followed by Layla Elstun in 11th with 265, Natalie Nutzman in 14th with 262, Sydney Havlat in 15th with 262 and MJ Shepard in 18th with 257.

Chris Wissenburg made his Milford debut with a fifth-place finish in the middle school boys division with a score of 271, and Miranda Elstun made her debut with a 199 in her first shoot ever.

“Everyone had a solid day and we look forward to our next tournament, Lincoln North Star this coming Saturday,” coach Jim Wissenburg said.
