Milford Fun Run returns with twist

Milford's annual fun run is back but with a new twist this year.

The Fun Run, set for July 24, will include a mile and 5K route. Organizer Mallory Gregory said that the one mile path is geared towards beginning joggers, walkers and runners of all skillsets. The 5K is a greater test in endurance but still a challenge to races of all levels.

New to the fun run this year is the Route Rally, which challenges Milford citizens to get out and support the runners. Residents on the parade route are encouraged to cheer, play music, decorate their homes, create activities and games in their driveways and lawns and do anything else that may provide an added boost of encouragement for runners. The extra support for runners is nice, Gregory said, but it's also a competition for the residents. Cash and Chamber Bucks will be awarded to the top three participating houses.

“We were trying to brainstorm ways to get an audience for the runners to cheer them on and take their mind of running, so we thought we could get the homes along the route involved with some amazing prizes donated by the Chamber,” Gregory said.

Gregory said all runners and walkers are encouraged to participate because of the opportunity to be involved in an activity set in an atmosphere of encouragement.

“It gives people motivation to wake up and exercise, but most importantly, it's an energizing environment within the streets of Milford,” she said.

Runners can register any time before the race at the Milford Fun Run Facebook page. All participants will receive a medal and race t-shirt, as well as water and refreshments. Prizes will be given to the winners of each race.

All proceeds from the race will benefit the Milford Chamber of Commerce, which will use funds to support community causes throughout the year.

Gregory said between the races and the Route Rally, this year will prove to be a special year for the fun run.

“This is an opportunity for family and friends to come together and kick off the morning of Milford Fun Days,” she said.
