The City of Milford advanced towards a project to renovate the former Crestview Nursing Home building into apartments.

The Milford City Council approved a redevelopment agreement with Hoppe & Sons, LLC, to convert the building into 20 to 24 garden-style, rental apartments at its Nov. 2 meeting.

Milford mayor Patrick Kelley said the redevelopment agreement includes the use of Tax Increment Finance dollars.

He said the LLC is currently working with the Seward County Assessor's office to see the final assessed value of the property, but anticipates the project to move forward soon.

“They did indicated that because it's repurposing work, they could work thorughout the winter and wouldn't need to wait,” Kelley said. “It would be another quick-moving project if all goes well.”

Kelley said the project would be a major asset to the community, as it would provide a need for both workforce housing and rental purposes.

“It definitely solves another need in our community with respect to rental space,” he said.

He added that the apartments would be a compliment to the Timber Creek Housing Development, which will add up to 52 new houses when filled, as well as other new businesses opening in the area.

“The fruits of our labor have generated a place for our community to prosper,” he said. “I can't think of a better time to be in Milford than right now.”
