Milford volleyball split its two matches last week, falling to Fairbury 25-23, 25-27, 26-24, 25-13 and beating Centennial 25-22, 22-25, 25-14, 26-24.
Against Fairbury Aug. 31, Coach Emily Restau said, the Eagles had chances to come out on top.
“We had too many unforced errors which kept Fairbury in the game and then they capitalized on our errors and made a run for themselves,” she said. “Bettering the ball is going to be a key for our team this year and adjusting to what different teams bring at us.”
Marissa Walker led MHS with 10 kills, and Sarah Spahr, Savannah Spahr and Taylor Roth had seven each. Caitlyn Adams delivered 36 assists in the match.
Ashlynn Zegers served four aces, with Paige Riley and Avery Saltzman adding one each.
On defense, Saltzman picked up 14 digs to lead the back row. Savannah Spahr added 11 digs, with Elle Kratochvil and Zegers recording nine each. Sara Spahr, Walker and Tennacee Crumrine put up one block each.
The Eagles battled county and conference foe Centennial Sept. 2.
“The girls had a different sense of fire during this match,” Restau said. “I had asked them earlier to make one change throughout the match and they did exactly that. You could really see their energy and passions throughout the match no matter what the score was.”
She said the Eagles made some changes on defense to better counter the Broncos’ offense, and the team adjusted well.
“We stayed aggressive throughout the match which really allowed us to mix up our offense,” she said.
Savannah Spahr led the offense with 17 kills, followed by Sarah Spahr with nine, Walker with eight and Crumrine with seven.
Adams put up 38 set assists and served two aces. Sarah Spahr also had two aces, with Saltzman and Morgan McCullough adding one each.
Sarah Spahr was big at the net, recording five blocks, while sister Savannah added four. Adams put up two.
Saltzman led the back row with 20 digs, while Tanya Miller picked up 12 and Riley 10.
The Eagles (2-2) hosted Fillmore Central Sept. 7 and were to play in the Malcolm Invitational Thursday and Saturday, Sept. 9 and 11.
