Chapters plans midnight party

To celebrate the release of "Onyx Storm" by Rebecca Yarros, Chapters Books and Gifts in Seward will be open from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. tonight.

Monday holiday means closings

Monday, Jan. 20, is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a federal holiday. That means some businesses, including banks, and state and local offices will be closed. Call ahead if you need to transact business to see if that office is open. Monday is also Inauguration Day.

Donald Trump will be sworn in as president today with the inauguration beginning at 11 a.m. central time. Because of frigid temperatures in Washington, D.C., events have been moved indoors.

Ohio State and Notre Dame will play in the college football national championship game tonight with kickoff at 6:30 p.m. central time.

Visitation for Verna Brandt will be today, Jan. 20, from 1-7 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. at Lauber Funeral Home in Friend. The funeral service will be Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Cordova. Graveside service will follow at Zastrow Cemetery.

COGSWELL, Charles

The funeral service for Charles Cogswell will be today at 10 a.m. at the Friend Congregational Church. Interment will follow at Andrew Cemetery.

WISEHART, Julie

Visitation for Julie Wisehart will be today, Jan. 20, from 1-7 p.m. at Zabka-Perdue Funeral Home in Seward. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Rosary will be Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Graveside service and interment will be at 11:30 a.m. at the Seward Cemetery.
