The city of Seward has purchased the home at 410 E. Seward St. and plans to remove all structures from the site to expand green space just west of the dog park.

Third-seeded and NAIA 10th-ranked Baker University played at a level March 15 that the sixth-seeded and NAIA 11th-ranked Concordia University men’s basketball team couldn’t match. In the NAIA National Championship Round of 32, the Bulldogs dug a 22-point first-half hole while surrendering separate runs of 12-0 and 15-0. Buoyed by their ultra-aggressive defensive play, the Wildcats pulled away for an 80-65 victory inside the Collins Center in Baldwin City, Kansas.

Head Coach Ben Limback’s squad finished the 2024-25 campaign at 26-7 overall. Concordia reached the national tournament for the fourth straight year and for the fifth time in six seasons.
The Seward VFW post and VFW auxiliary will host a St. Patrick’s Day meal Monday, March 17, from 5 - 7 p.m. Corned beef and cabbage, potatoes, carrots, Irish soda bread, and dark chocolate Guinness cake with Baileys cream cheese frosting will be served. Cost is $15 and 10 and under are $10.
“Garfield The Movie” was rescheduled to Monday, March 17, at 1 p.m. The free movie at the Seward Rivoli Theater is open to all ages. The movie is PG rated, and the Rotary Club asks guests to bring canned goods or toiletries items to be donated to area pantries. The Rotary requests all children to be accompanied by an adult.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. The Rosary will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ulysses with the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Graveside service and interment will be at 11:45 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Ulysses.
A memorial service for JoAnn Hoff will be Tuesday, March 18, at 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Seward.
