The Milford School District will enter the summer with a full roster of teachers.

The Milford School Board on May 10 approved three new teacher hires for the district and also filled an assistant principal vacancy.

The board elected to approve the contracts for kindergarten through sixth grade music teacher Janet Howles, high school science teacher Jacob Leuenberger and first grade teacher Brittany Wambold.

Howles previously served as a teacher and special education paraeducator at Lakeview Public Schools and an adjunct professor of clarinet at Doane College.

Leuenberger comes to Milford with two years of experience at Nebraska City and an additional six at Johnson Brock.

Wambold's tenure at Milford will be her first professional teacher job. She is currently a graduate research and teaching assistant at University of Nebraska-Lincoln and is working to finish her Master's degree in special education.

Milford Superintendent Kevin Wingard said he is confident the district hired the best candidates for the jobs and is pleased with the success of the hiring process for all three.

“When you look at the Teach Nebraska job site, there are a lot of jobs being advertised across the state, so we feel blessed to have all those filled,” he said.

Additionally, Wingard said this completes the teaching roster heading into the 2021-2022 school year.

“Right now, we have all the teaching stuff hired. We will be advertising for two or three paraeducators and an elementary school nurse,” he said, “but as far as teaching-wise, we are full.”

The board also appointed Sadie Coffee as the seventh through 12th grade assistant principal and athletic director. Coffey was one of four candidates interviewed for the position.

She has served in many administrative roles throughout the state, including principal at Heartland and Superintendent at Shickley. She also has experience has a special education instructor.

Coffey will fill the role of former assistant principal Cameron Soester, who resigned to take the sixth through 12th grade principal job at Louisville Public Schools. Soester had been with the district for eight years.

The board officially approved Soester's resignation at its May 10 meeting.

“We're going to miss him,” Wingard said. “He did a great job for us.”
