Offense sputters for host team at tournament

The Crete Nestle Purina Legion juniors hosted the Gretchen Walker Memorial Invitational June 25 and 26 and went 0-3 in its games.

Crete opened against Seward June 25 and lost 17-1, allowing 12 runs in the first inning. CNP had just two hits in the game, singles by Cale Burkhardt and Patton Svitak.

Game two pitted CNP against Wilber, and the home team came up short 14-2. Svitak and Brody Klein each singled for Crete, and Jeffrey Kuncl was hit by pitches twice.

In game three June 26, Crete fell short to Holdrege 8-4. Holdrege scored five in the third, but Crete rallied with one in the third, one in the fifth and two in the sixth, but it couldn’t dig completely out of the early hole.

Carson Kotil was 3-3 and stole four bases. Kenner Svitak and Colton Homolka had Crete’s other two hits, and Kenner Svitak also stole four bases.

The week started June 21 with an 8-6 loss to Hickman. Colton Homolka was 2-2 with a double and drove in two runs for CNP. Everett Heath and Mason Stone also doubled for CNP.

On June 22, Crete lost to Mt. Michael 21-1. Cale Burkhardt had Crete’s only hit of the game and drove in the team’s only run.

CNP (1-13) was scheduled to play next on Saturday, July 2, at home against York. First pitch is set for noon at Tuxedo Park.
