Phyllis M. Troyer

Phyllis Mae (Stutzman) Troyer was born May 5, 1935, at home in Beaver Crossing, to Bert and Elma (Roth) Stutzman. She was the fifth of eight children. She passed away peacefully May 19, 2022, at the age of 87 at Tabitha Center in Crete.

As a young girl, Phyllis attended District 16 County School in Beaver Crossing. She accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized in her youth at West Fairview Mennonite Church. She later became a member of Beth-El Mennonite Church in Milford. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Troyer on July 9, 1954, and to this union were born four children, Dennis, Marla, Jeanie and Kathrina “Renie.”

As a young wife and mother, Phyllis was active in teaching children’s Sunday School, VBS and GMSA. Later, she was active in Mennonite Women’s quilting at church. In her spare time, she enjoyed bowling and golf, plus embroidery and quilting. Together, Kenny and Phyllis loved gardening, canning and flowers plus enjoyed traveling and spending time each winter in Florida, visiting relatives and friends. She was a faithful volunteer at Et Cetera for many years. Phyllis was also a wonderful cook, hosting many family get-togethers, and enjoying time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Phyllis is survived by three of her four children and spouses, Dennis and Shelly Troyer, Milford, Marla Kohmetscher, Grand Island, Renie and Tony Schaben, Milford; 11 grandchildren, Marc, Rustin, Melissa, Karlette, Denielle, Allison, Daniel, Jen, Kenton, Emily and Josh; plus 19 of her 21 great-grandchildren.

Phyllis is also survived by her sisters, Ruth Erb, Shickley, and Edna Roth, Milford; sisters-in-law, Veryl Stutzman, Seward, Joyce Stutzman, Milford, Barb Stutzman, Nora, Barbara Troyer and Norma Jean Troyer, Albany, Oregon; brothers-in-law, Lauren Troyer and Gary Benson, Milford.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Bert and Elma Stutzman; father and mother-in-law, John and Elsie Troyer; her husband, Kenneth; her daughter, Jeanie Rouse and son-in-law Dan Rouse; brothers, Cloy, Roy, Stan and Dennis Stutzman; her sisters, Luella Schweitzer and Lois Schweitzer; her great-granddaughters, Lillian Kohmetscher and Dylan Tolen plus several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

The funeral service was May 22 at Beth-El Community Church, Milford. Memorial contributions are suggested to the family for future designation. Condolences may be left for the family online at www.lauberfh.com.
