The Pleasant Dale American Legion Auxiliary recently claimed a national award for its attention to area education.

The Auxiliary and Unit Education Chairman, Linda Anderson, were named the Northwestern Division's Most Outstanding Unit Education Program. The award was won at the National American Legion Auxiliary Convention in 2019 but the unit officially received the award in March.

The Northwestern Division is composed of Colorado, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Montana and Wyoming.

One of the things the unit was noted for was its support of the Milford Public Schools. The unit awards scholarships to students and has donated to post-prom.

Recently, unit volunteers donned their red and white striped hats to read the Cat in the Hat to the kindergarten class at Milford Elementary.

Additionally, the unit received recognition for its work with Malcolm schools including the donation of library books and school supplies, providing treats to staff and students and providing scholarships.

“We are very thankful that the Malcolm Public Schools and Milford Public Schools are willing to open their doors to all of our activities,” Anderson said.
