Richard Thomas Dugdale came to bat on Aug. 11, 1942, in Seward to Robert and Lois (Brandhorst) Dugdale, and crossed home plate on Friday, Nov. 13, 2020, at Bryan East Medical Center in Lincoln at the age of 78.

Richard attended Milford Public School, graduating with the class of 1960 as a football, basketball and track letterman. After high school, he attended the University of Nebraska before taking a job as a pharmaceutical assistant with Gilmour-Danielson Drug Company.

He was united in marriage to Janice Christoffersen in September 1964 and to this union, three children were born, Richard, Jenifer and Ryan. Together they lived in Milford where Richard worked at the Milford Lumber Yard, Gene’s Electric and finally with Rediger & Associates in Lincoln, retiring in 2017. He was committed to community and civic service by serving on the Milford city council for 21 years, including holding the office of president. He was a member of the Milford Masonic Lodge 30, AF & AM, serving as secretary, and was recognized for his 50-year membership. Richard was a Milford High School football and basketball public address sports announcer and clock keeper for 33 years. Richard enjoyed spending time with friends firing strikes and spares, locking down first base, chasing a golf ball and was an avid spectator of all sports, particularly Husker athletics and Chicago Cubs baseball.

On Oct. 29, 2016, he was blessed with a second marriage to Penny Kremer in Milford. Their companionship resurrected his zest for life. The two enjoyed many outings and events, such as going to the Lied Center or simply relaxing at the cabin.

Everyone will miss Richard’s welcoming smile, resonant bass voice, eternal wisecracks and crippling grip. Jointly, the Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company will miss his patronage. Yet assuredly, Richard is now celebrating a life’s World Series championship with family and friends, both here and beyond.

Survivors include his wife, Penny, Milford; three children, Richard (Rick), Frisco, Texas, Jenifer (J.J.), Lincoln, and Ryan, Roeland Park, Kansas; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Brose, Westminster, Colorado, and Pam (Dean) Schent, Ashland; niece, Angela Chavez, Henderson, Nevada; nephew, Mike Brose, Highlands Ranch, Colorado; niece, Kirsten Blunt, Westminster; “brother-in-law,” Thomas Pomeroy, Lincoln; “cousins” Suzanne Pomeroy, Omaha, and Eric Pomeroy, San Diego, California; two step-children, Scott Kremer, Ashton, Maryland, and Kirk (Robin) Kremer, Lincoln; three step-grandchildren, Kerres Madlock, Kourtney Hedges and Sydni Kremer; four step-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and many best friends.
