CU athlete earns national honor

Named GPAC Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week earlier in the day, Concordia University, Nebraska junior was also tabbed NAIA Men’s Indoor National Field Athlete of the Week. At last week’s Fred Beile Classic hosted by Doane, Ostermeyer vaulted 16-0.75 and won the competition by nearly two feet. Ostermeyer continues to pace the NAIA with his personal best (16-4.75) achieved at the Concordia Classic on Jan. 25.

TODAY - Free movie

The Seward Memorial Library will host a free movie, a 2024 romance/drama, on Thursday, Feb. 6, at 1 p.m. Feel free to bring snacks and a drink. Visit sewardlibrary.org for more information.

TODAY - TOPS meets weekly

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meets weekly on Thursdays at the Living Word Church, 1300 Hillcrest, south door. TOPS is a weight management support group. Weigh-in begins at 11:15 a.m. and the meetings are from noon to 12:30 p.m. The initial meeting is free.

TODAY - Line dancing

Line dancing with Jacki Mason will start Jan. 23 and run through March 27. This series will be Thursday nights at 6:30 p.m. No partner is necessary, all ages 10 and up are welcome, and do not forget to wear comfortable shoes. Registration is not required.

TOMORROW - Fridays For You

A suicide prevention training session will be Friday, Feb. 7, from noon to 1 p.m. at Seward Memorial Hospital’s third level meeting room. This presentation equips people to recognize the warning signs of suicide, know how to offer hope and know how to get help and save a life. RSVP was required.

TOMORROW - Fun Fridays

The Seward Memorial Library will host “Just for Fun Fridays” every Friday from 1:30 – 3 p.m. This program is designed for adults. First and third Fridays of the month, card games; second and fourth Fridays, Bingo; fifth Friday – patrons’ choice between cards or Bingo.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR - Date night

The annual Daughter Date Night Dance will be Thursday, Feb. 13, from 7 – 10 p.m. at the Harvest Hall, Seward County Fairgrounds. Dads, grandpas, moms, grandmas, anyone who loves a daughter is welcome to bring their favorite girl(s) for a night of fun. The dance includes a DJ, refreshments, photo booth and games. Visitation for Willis Svoboda will be today, Feb. 6, from 1-4 p.m. at Zabka Perdue Funeral Home in Dwight. The family will receive friends from 5:30-7 p.m. at Assumption Catholic Church, with the Rosary to begin at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, Feb. 7, at 10 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church in Dwight, with graveside service and interment at 11 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Cemetery.

The funeral service For Geraldn Schultz will be Thursday, Feb. 6, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Savior Lutheran Church in Lincoln. Graveside service and interment will be at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Dale Cemetery.

The graveside service for Lauren Troyer will be Thursday, Feb. 6, at 9:15 a.m. at Salem Cemetery, rural Seward, followed by the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. at East Fairview Mennonite Church.
