Before looking ahead to a showdown with No. 3 Northwestern, the Concordia University men’s basketball team steamrolled its way through Mount Marty behind another monster outing from Tristan Smith. A 22-0 first-half run spurred the Bulldogs’ 89-62 blowout of the Lancers. Fresh off being named GPAC Offensive Player of the Week, Smith finished with a game-high 27 points while dominating both ends of the floor. CU has won eight straight GPAC games.

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meets weekly on Thursdays at the Living Word Church, 1300 Hillcrest, south door. TOPS is a weight management support group. Weigh-in begins at 11:15 a.m. and the meetings are from noon to 12:30 p.m. The initial meeting is free.
The Seward Memorial Library will host “Just for Fun Fridays” every Friday from 1:30 – 3 p.m. starting Jan. 17. These program are designed for adults. First and third Fridays of the month are card games, with no experience necessary. On the second and fourth Fridays of the month, Bingo will be played.
A 13-week GriefShare support group will begin Jan. 18 in the Heritage Room at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward. The group will meet every Saturday from 9:30 – 11 a.m. through April 12. Cost of the workbook is $20; however, St John Stephen Ministry will pay half. This fee is for a detailed workbook to use at home and at the sessions.
