Register for annual Freedom Run

Registration is open for the annual Seward Freedom Run, contested on July 4 each year. The two-mile fun run and 10K run start at 7 a.m. July 4 at Plum Creek Park's four-plex. Family discounts are available through June 20. Proceeds from the run will go to scholarships for families to access before- and after-school care programs and Wellness Center memberships. Registration for the races is online at www.GetMeRegistered.com.

Who made the honor roll?

Seward High announced its fourth-quarter honor roll. Find out what students made the grade in the June 19 SCI.

County looks for grant partners.

Seward County has received a little more than $3.5 million in grants since Jan. 1 and Seward County Board of Commissioners Chair Misty Ahmic would like to see more funding coming this way.

TODAY - MFSC annual meeting

The annual meeting of the Milford Friends of the Senior Center will be Thursday, June 20, at 12:30 p.m. at the Milford Senior Center. Milford Friends of the Senior Center is a 501c-3 charitable organization whose purpose is to receive and disburse funds from the charitable gifts intended for support for the Milford Senior Center.

TODAY - Animal adventure week: farm animals

It will be a farm animal afternoon at the Seward Memorial Library on Thursday, June 20, at 1 p.m. Due to cancellations, there will not be a petting zoo, but animal bingo and other activities are planned. This event is for ages K-fifth grade. No registration is required.

TODAY - Free swim

There will be a free swim night Thursday, June 20, from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Seward Dowding Municipal Pool, sponsored by Zabka-Perdue Funeral Home.

TODAY - Committee meeting

The monthly July Fourth Celebration Committee meeting will be Thursday, June 20, at 7 p.m. at the Nebraska National Guard Museum to finalize the details for the celebration. TODAY - Car club meets

The Seward Good Life Car Club’s second gathering in June will be at the Seward Country Club, the new Calabria Restaurant, on Thursday, June 20, at 7 p.m. The change in time is for this meeting only.

TODAY - Band practice tonight

Rehearsals for the Seward Municipal Band’s 137th season are Thursdays from 7 – 9 p.m. at the Borland Center on the Concordia University campus throughout the summer.

Ice cream luncheon in Cordova

St. John Lutheran Church in Cordova is hosting a free will homemade ice cream luncheon on Sunday, June 23, from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pies and cakes are also available.

Crete juniors shut out Seward

The Crete Post 147 Legion juniors team topped Seward ZKE Storage Post 33 5-0 June 19 in Seward. Crete pitching held Seward to just two hits - singles by Kyle Riley and Tyler Hammond. Triston Lenhoff drove in two runs for Crete.

The Seward ZKE Storage Post 33 seniors had to come from behind to get the win over Crete June 19. Crete took a 4-2 lead with three runs in the sixth. Seward scored one in the sixth and two in the seventh to get the 5-4 victory. Reggie Sukup and Ryley Hain had three hits each, and Braiden Herring drove in two for Seward. Brooks Piening went 2-3 for Crete, and Christian drove in two.

Signing the guest book for Gordon Goldsmith will be today, June 20, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Volzke Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Friday, June 21, at 2 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward. Committal will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Volzke Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

SCHULTZ, Kenneth

The funeral service for Kenny Schultz is today, June 20, at 2:30 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward. Graveside service and interment will be at 3:30 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery. Zabka-Perdue Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

WELLS, Jesse

The funeral service for Jesse Wells is today, June 20, at 10:30 a.m. at the Milford Mennonite Church in Milford. Lauber Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
