New store features 'A Modern Touch'

Finding unique pieces to upcycle led to Wendy Kremer selling her refurbished furniture to others, eventually landing her inside The Second Closet. Kremer’s home decor garnered an audience through the store and via her painting business Wendy’s Premier Painting.
With higher demands and more eyes on her work, Kremer decided to open her new business as a way to meet consumer needs – A Modern Touch.

Ensuring a dog is properly trained and ready to be around other dogs is a daunting task for any dog owner.
Whether the dog is afraid of other dogs, people or even just leaving their owner’s side, nervous or overly excited dogs can cause issues when it comes to dog park etiquette.

TODAY - Music bingo in Utica

The Utica Senior Center will host Seniors Music Bingo on Wednesday, June 19, at 12:30 p.m.

TODAY - Animal adventure week: birds

Spring is here, and birds are busy preparing their nests. The Seward Memorial Library will host an event Wednesday, June 19, at 1 p.m. to create bird nests. Participants will also have the chance to paint a wood-carved bird. There is a limit of 20 participants, so registration is required.

TODAY - Farmers market open for business

The Seward Farmers Market will be open this afternoon from 5-7 p.m. at the Seward County Fairgrounds, east of the horseshoe pits. Tonight's hamburger stand is hosted by Seward County Democrats. Among the items now ready are rhubarb, lettuce, peas, beets and mulberries.

TOMORROW - Coffee and conversation in Milford

Marshall Wirtz of Greene Senior Living will be at the Milford Senior Center Thursday, June 20, at 9 a.m. to give an Aerial America presentation.

TOMORROW - MFSC annual meeting

The annual meeting of the Milford Friends of the Senior Center will be Thursday, June 20, at 12:30 p.m. at the Milford Senior Center. Milford Friends of the Senior Center is a 501c-3 charitable organization whose purpose is to receive and disburse funds from the charitable gifts intended for support for the Milford Senior Center.

TOMORROW - Animal adventure week: farm animals

It will be a farm animal afternoon at the Seward Memorial Library on Thursday, June 20, at 1 p.m. Due to cancellations, there will not be a petting zoo, but animal bingo and other activities are planned. This event is for ages K-fifth grade. No registration is required.

TOMORROW - Free swim

There will be a free swim night Thursday, June 20, from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Seward Dowding Municipal Pool, sponsored by Zabka-Perdue Funeral Home.

TOMORROW - Committee meeting

The monthly July Fourth Celebration Committee meeting will be Thursday, June 20, at 7 p.m. at the Nebraska National Guard Museum to finalize the details for the celebration. The Seward Good Life Car Club’s second gathering in June will be at the Seward Country Club, the new Calabria Restaurant, on Thursday, June 20, at 7 p.m. The change in time is for this meeting only.

Visitation for Jesse Wells will be today, June 19, from 4-7 p.m. at Lauber Funeral Home in Friend. The funeral service is tomorrow, June 20, at 10:30 a.m. at the Milford Mennonite Church in Milford.

SCHULTZ, Kenneth

Visitation for Kenny Schultz will be today, June 19, from 1-8:30 p.m. at Zabka-Perdue Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. The funeral service is tomorrow, June 20, at 2:30 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward. Graveside service and interment will be at 3:30 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery.

SCHLUCKEBIER, Sam

The funeral service for Sam Schluckebier will be Wednesday, June 19, at 10:30 a.m. at Hillcrest Evangelical Free Church in Seward. Zabka-Perdue Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
