WinShape camp returns to Milford for third year

Nearly 270 kids will participate in WinShape Camp as it returns to Milford for the third year July 31-Aug. 4.

“It’s like Bible school on steroids,” said the Rev. Tim Springer of Milford Mennonite Church.

Kids in grades kindergarten through sixth will be a part of the camp which will take place from 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday at Milford High School.

On Friday, Chick-fil-A will provide lunch for all campers and their families.

The WinShape Foundation, based in Atlanta, Georgia, offers the weeklong camp to teach youth about Jesus through experiential learning.

Attendees focus on worship, recreational activities, Bible study and learning skills based on their individual interests – everything from archery to basketball to cooking to dancing, Springer said.

“They’re bringing 21 camp leaders to put on this camp. They go to different communities all over the U.S.,” he said. “It’s very high-energy and very organized.”

The leaders will bring along two truckloads of props, games and supplies to transform Milford High into a completely different destination for the week.

All of Milford’s local churches help sponsor the event.

“Because of generous donors, the kids are able to go for a very nominal fee for the week,” Springer said.

Local volunteers will help throughout the week. Springer said 25 to 30 volunteers are needed each day to help with activities.

“We welcome and encourage high school kids on up to help and volunteer,” he said.

Those wishing to volunteer may contact Tara Stahl at (402) 646-0976 or go to camps.winshape.org/volunteer to sign up. Stahl said the camp is most in need of volunteers to serve as Bible study assistants.
