The Seward/Milford girls’ wrestling team (Bluejays/Eagles) picked up a home dual win Jan. 15, beating a tough Northwest squad 48-36.
Senior Ava Rediger recorded her 100th career pin the same night sophomore Lily Jackson recorded her first. Rediger pinned Marlena Leon in 2:58 at 135 pounds.
Jackson, who has been unable to wrestle because of injuries, took the mat for the first time at 120 pounds. Trailing 14-0 after the first period, the sophomore reversed Chloe Donnely and held on for the pin in 3:10.
‘That was exciting to see,” Coach Andy Sistek said.
The team headed to Nebraska City Jan. 17 for the Rumble in River Country and brought home five medals.
Lauren Frihauf won gold at 105 pounds, going 3-0 with two pins and beating another state champion 9-1 in the final.
“It was closer than the score,” Sistek said. “Lauren took control and gave her her first loss in two years.”
Torrence Mayo (145) and Addyson Wassinger (190) each finished third. Mayo was 3-2 with three pins. Katelyn Jones (125) and Annabelle Buchli (130) were both fourth.
Up next for Seward/Milford is a trip to Schuyler for a dual Jan. 22 and the Centennial Invite Saturday, Jan. 24, starting at 9:30 a.m. in Utica.
