Catholic Schools Week to celebrate Christ-centered education

Faith in action will be on display at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School in Seward during National Catholic Schools Week beginning on Jan. 25.

St. Vincent de Paul, Seward County’s only Catholic school, will host various activities for students each day of the week, including student-led readings, speaker presentations, a movie screening and a field trip.

Students will dress up to fit a different theme every day. Principal Janet Bohaty said St. Vincent de Paul students wear uniforms, so they love the chance to have a fun, out-of-uniform week.

One day, students will bake treats for first responders and make crafts for a local nursing home. Bohaty said this gives the school a chance to thank its community for its support.

“I just think that’s a big part of our faith as Catholics,” Bohaty said. “It’s really important to show Christ’s love to everyone, so I think that’s just a great way for us to show our Catholic faith by doing those things.”

Bohaty said she enjoys celebrating National Catholic Schools Week because she loves that, as a Catholic school, St. Vincent de Paul can bring Christ into every day, from daily Mass to in the classroom.

“In order to celebrate that, we just dedicate an entire week to it and make it a special time for the kids and families and our parish to know that we’re just really thankful that we have this chance to bring Jesus into our daily schedule,” Bohaty said. “This is a great way to celebrate that.”
