CFA sweeps Milford

The Milford Post 171 teams hosted Chick-fil-A (Lincoln Lutheran) for a junior/senior doubleheader June 26 and lost both games, falling in the juniors’ match-up 13-1 and in the seniors’ contest 14-1.

The juniors led 1-0 after the first inning, but CFA scored five in the second and didn’t look back. Milford cut the lead to 8-3 in the fifth, but a five-run seventh sealed the win for CFA.

Mason June was 2-3 for Milford and stole two bases. Hayden Behmer also stole two bases. Behmer and Tristan Harrison each drove in a run for Post 171.

The CFA seniors jumped on Milford early, leading 3-1 after the second inning and then scoring four in the third, three in the fourth and four in the fifth to end the game early via the run rule.

Cole Stutzman and Gabe Mach had Milford’s two hits. Stutzman also pitched three innings and struck out two. Max Roth pitched two innings in relief and struck out one.

The Milford seniors competed in a tournament at Twin River over the weekend and went 0-2, giving Sutton a forfeit June 27 and losing to Valparaiso 9-1 June 28. The June 29 game against SOS was halted going into the fourth inning with the score 4-0.

In the loss to Valparaiso, Westin DeLong hit a double and Jax Hansen and Behmer each singled. Zackary Parra was hit by pitches three times.

Arthur Price got the start on the mound and went 4.1 innings, striking out four. Graydon Meredith-Walker pitched the final inning.

Up next for the Milford juniors (4-12) was a double-header against Tri County Thursday, July 3, starting at 6 p.m. in Milford. The team is scheduled to play at Wilber Monday, July 7, starting at 5:30 p.m., with the seniors (3-10) to follow.

The juniors’ district tournament starts Friday, July 11. Area assignments had not been announced at press time.
