Area residents participating in baseball, softball and tackle football programs or planning their final resting places will see some new prices as of March 1.
The Seward City Council on Jan. 20 adopted a new schedule of fees for city recreation programs and the cemeteries.
As of March 1, lots at Seward Cemeteries will be sold for $700 with additional fees for specific cemetery services and services conducted on non-weekdays or holidays.
Council member Zane Francescato said the cemeteries’ fees are still relatively low compared to surrounding communities.
The city’s fee for perpetual care at the cemetery is 25% of the burial space fee.
City Administrator Greg Butcher said the city still needs to consider ways to increase the perpetual care fund.
On the recreation side, youth participating in the city’s tackle football program will see their registration fees double from $50 to $100 and the addition of a $150 returnable deposit on gear.
Butcher told council members tackle football registration in Lincoln is $350 and the fee increase reflects the cost of the program. In addition, the gear deposit is intended to increase the amount of gear returned to the city at season’s end.
Baseball and softball registrations were also increased to $75.
Other activity fees will remain as they were last summer and fall: Legion baseball registration is $100, adult volleyball is $50, youth soccer, volleyball and flag football is $40, youth basketball and wrestling are $30, and youth tennis is $25.

Swim lessons are $$25 for pre-K and parent classes, $40 for group lessons and $80 for private lessons.
Pool rental is $300 and rental of the sports complex concession stand is $150 for one day, $250 for two days, or $300 for three days plus a $100 damage deposit. Plum Creek Park softball concession stand rental is $75 for one day, $125 for two days and $150 for three days.
