Seward County primary voters selected incumbent Republican Pete Ricketts, Democrat Cindy Burbank and Legal Marijuana Now candidate Mike Marvin  in the race for U.S. Senate.

With all precincts reporting around midnight, the Nebraska Secretary of State’s website listed totals for each of the May 12 statewide and regional primary election races.

Ricketts received 1,766 votes in Seward County and a total of 154,472 across the state. Other contenders for the Republican nomination included Todd Knobel, 14,873 at the state level and 134 in Seward, Debb Axtell Schultz, 11,226 statewide and 131 in Seward County, Mac Stevens, who got 4,989 statewide and 61 votes in Seward County, and Eric Mortimore, 3,500 statewide and 32 in Seward County.

Burbank received 546 votes in Seward County and 100,679 among those voting on the Democratic primary ballot, while William J. Forbes received 12,185 votes across the state and 93 in Seward. 

Marvin received three votes among the Seward County and 12,185 across Nebraska Legal Marijuana NOW party and Earl Starkey received one vote locally and 399 statewide.

Pillen, Walz to face off

Republican Incumbent Gov. Jim Pillen got 1,595 votes in Seward County and 137,915 statewide, with other Republican candidates John Walz, 198 in Seward County and 17,366 statewide, Sheila J. Korth-Focken, 101 locally and 13,890 statewide, Gary L. Rogge, 92 here and 6,708 statewide, Jacy Todd, 45 locally and 4,856 at the state level, Sal Holguin with 11 local votes and 1,528 statewide, and John Walz with 198 in Seward County and 17,366 statewide.

Lynn Walz led the Democratic portion of governor’s race with 589 votes in Seward County and a total of 106,804, followed by Larry Marvin with 64 Seward County votes and 10,229 statewide.

Also in the race for governor, Rick Beard, received one vote in Seward and 330 statewide in the race for the Legal Marijuana NOW organization while James J. Charvat III received two votes in Seward County and 150 across the state. 

Congressional District 1

While Republican Incumbent Mike Flood is unopposed  for his party’s nomination for Congressional District 1, he received 1,940 Seward County votes and a total of 51,471 across the state.

He will now face Chris Backemeyer who had 24,713 votes across the district and 362 in Seward County over Eric Moyer’s 18,284 at the state level and 254 in the county. In addition, Nik Sandman received 14 votes in Seward County and 463 statewide for the Libertarian congressional nomination. 

State offices decided

In the race for the state Board of Education District 5, Angie Eberspacher garnered 1,433 votes in Seward County and 19.440 across the district. Michaela Conway finished with 236 votes in the county and 13,243 in the district, and Lana Daws had 1,273 in Seward County and 9,971 in the district.

In the race for the Republican nominee for secretary of state, Scott Petersen won Seward County with 1,189 votes and the state race with 94,193, and incumbent Bob Evnen received 783 votes locally and 77,880 statewide.

Sarah J. Slattery won the Seward County Democratic endorsement to run for secretary of state with 526 votes locally and 100,350 statewide. Lee M. Cimfel earned 67 votes in Seward County and 9,962 statewide.

Daniel Ebers received 530 Seward County votes for the Democratic nomination as state treasurer and 98,873 votes statewide.

Jay Spellerberg received 1,671 votes in Seward County and 150,994 at the state level for the Republican nomination for state treasurer. 

Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers received 1,782 Seward County votes in his re-election campaign, with 155,836 at the state level as of midnight. In the Democratic primary, Jocelyn Brasher received 546 votes in Seward County and 103,071 overall.

State Auditor Mike Foley received 1,851 Seward County votes and 159,949 at the state level. There is no Democrat opposing him in this race.
