A deputy with the Seward County Sheriff’s Office Interdiction Task Force conducted a traffic stop Feb. 3 for multiple vehicle and traffic violations on a 2021 Chrysler Voyager that exited I-80 at Goehner.

During the traffic stop, the deputy became increasingly suspicious that the driver, the sole occupant, was involved in criminal activity.

This led the deputy to ask for consent to search the vehicle, which was given by the driver.

During a search, the deputy located multiple packages of crystal methamphetamine concealed in the vehicle doors. The total weight of the crystal methamphetamine was determined to be more than 16 pounds.

Valentin Mendoza, Jr., 42, of San Bernardino, California, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, no drug tax stamp, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of more than 140 grams of methamphetamine.

Mendoza was booked into the Seward County Detention Center, pending further court action.
