The Milford Kiwanis Club honored two of its own with service awards Sept. 29.
The club also installed new officers for the 2023-24 year.
Verlyn Dunlap and Katie Wergin were recognized for their contributions to the organization and the community.
Dunlap was named Kiwanian of the Year for her leadership by example the past 19 years.
Dunlap co-chairs the annual Kiwanis Gingerbread House contest and Santa Party, helps with the annual pancake feed and maintains the Milford Welcomes You garden at the north entrance to town.
In addition to involvement in Kiwanis, her volunteer work as a TeamMates mentor played a vital role to a young person who eventually went on to be elected International President of Key Club, the high school level of Kiwanis.
Dunlap volunteers weekly at the Et Cetera Gift and Thrift shop in Seward and is a member of the shop’s board. She is active in her church and serves on the board of the Bellwood Christian Montessori Preschool.
Wergin received the Distinguished Service Award for her commitment and dedication to the club and the City of Milford.
She was recognized for her organization, patience, professionalism and leadership.
Over the years, Wergin has provided other members with opportunities for community service, building character and developing their own leadership skills.
