Milford's track and field team had a good showing at the District B4 meet May 13. The boys' team scored 56 points to finish fourth behind Seward, Norris and Lincoln Pius X.
In a fast 3,200-meter run, Avery Carter finished third in a season-best 9:56.29 to qualify for the state meet in Omaha next week.
Isaac Roth continued to sweep the hurdles. The junior won the 300-meter hurdles in 39.79 seconds and the 110-meter hurdles in 15.03 seconds.
The 110 finals were marred by controversy, however. The first running had hurdles set incorrectly, so the final had to be contested again. In the first go-round, Roth, teammate Gavin Piening and Seward's Tresten Hass went 1-2-3. In the second attempt, Piening hit the second-to-last hurdle and fell, finishing out of state qualifying position.
The boys' 4x400-meter relay team of Connor Adams, Kaleb Meierdierks, Zeb Reil and Isaac Roth placed third in 3:26.19, earning an additional qualifying spot based on time.
In the field events, Cash Martin cleared 14-6 to win the pole vault. Zeb Reil won the long jump at 21-3.5.
In the girls' competition, Abby Crabtree finished second in the 400-meter dash in 1:00.05. Sarah Reynolds finished second in the discus with a throw of 104-0.
The state meet will be Wednesday and Thursday, May 21 and 22, at Omaha Burke High School. Events start at 9 a.m. both days.
Raymond Central
Despite a limited lineup, the Milford boys’ track team bested the field at the Raymond Central Invite May 8, holding off runner-up Lincoln Lutheran by 2.5 points.
Zeb Reil jumped into second in the district with a personal best 21-6 in the long jump. The distance also landed him at No. 2 on the Milford charts, Coach Cody Gregory said.
Cash Martin won the pole vault at 13-6 to join Reil in the gold medal column.
Reil teamed with Thomas Belleau, Isaac Roth and Aiden Henson to break the school record again in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 44.39 seconds. The previous record was set at the conference meet last week.
Henson added a gold medal in the 100-meter dash with an 11.08 clocking, his fastest of the season since Central City, where a strong tail wind helped times.
Garrett Freeman set a new PR in the 800-meter run at 2:01.65 to sit in third on the school charts. However, he only finished fourth in the race behind three Lincoln Lutheran runners. That sweep put the Warriors in the lead in the team race, Gregory said.
Roth and Gavin Piening went 1-2 in both hurdle races. Roth won the 110-meter hurdles in 14.85 seconds, with Piening finishing in 15.64 seconds. In the 300s, Roth finished in 39.94 with Piening in 43.03. Cole Brown finished the top-three sweep in the 300s in third. That gave MHS the team lead back, Gregory said.
Avery Carter took the top spot in the 1,600-meter run in 4:33.89 with LLHS in second. The 4x100 relay finished third behind LL in second to hold on to a half-point lead.
A young 4x400-meter relay team of Brown, Zane Wittstruck (both freshmen), Gus Crabtree and Jonny Kohout (both sophomores) finished fifth to seal the team title.
In the girls’ competition, Abby Crabtree improved her time in the 200-meter dash to 26.55, No. 5 on the MHS all-time charts, to win the race.
Delaney Carraher placed third in the 1,600-meter run and sixth in the 800 for the Eagles.
Libbie Reil, Violet Augustyn, Haley Brhel and Crabtree teamed to finish second in the 4x400-meter relay in 4:24.62, and the 4x100 team of Ella Montgomery, Reil, Augustyn and Aubrey Burton finished fifth.
The Eagles competed in the District B4 meet at Crete May 13. The state meet is Wednesday and Thursday, May 21 and 22, at Omaha Burke High School.
