Eagles run well at home

Milford’s cross country teams were able to recover from their “up and down” opening week with strong showings at their home meet Sept. 10.

The boys’ team was the meet champion, led by Easton Sample’s third-place finish with a time of 17:45.4.

“Easton Sample had a great summer and worked incredibly hard, so it has been fun to watch him gain confidence and go from not medaling in this meet last year to being a high medalist (third place) this year,” Coach Jake Kment said.

Yoan Montero continued his consistent season with a sixth-place run. Sylus Rakow was 11th and Adler Armbrust 12th to round out the Milford scoring.

“Possibly the biggest individual performance for the boys came from Adler Armbrust. He came from way behind in the second half of the race to earn his first varsity medal with an over 30-second PR,” Kment said.

The girls’ team was the runner-up behind Minden, one of the best teams in the state.

“The girls were solid across the board, with most of them running course-PRs,” Kment said.

Macie Carter was the meet champion, finishing in 19:41.6. She pulled away in the second half of the race to win by over 30 seconds.

She “showed how dominant she could be,” Kment said.

Abby Crabtree was 10th, Elsa Schweitzer 14th and Olivia Augustyn 18th for the Eagles.

Milford is next in action Thursday, Sept. 17, at Fillmore Central. Kment said the meet will feature some of the best Class C and D teams in the state.

Races start at Hidden Hills Country Club at 4:45 p.m. with girls’ varsity, followed by boys’ varsity and then the JV boys and girls.
