Milford hosted its home track meet April 10, and everyone had a chance to show their family and friends what they could do.
Coach Cody Gregory said it was good to have everyone back to compete. The Eagles have been working around school trips, FCA, State FCCLA, State FBLA, district music and the musical.
“It shows how well-rounded our kids are that they are involved and competitive in so many activities and organizations,” he said.
The Eagles scored in almost every event at the meet, not scoring on only four across the boys’ and girls’ competitions. The boys’ team finished atop the standings, with the girls placing second.
Macie Carter scored 30 points for the MHS girls, winning the 800 (2:28.61), 1,600 (5:41.24) and 3,200 (12:02.79).
“Not only did she win the events, but she won them with really fast times, all top-10 times, improving her PR in the 800 and 3,200. She is proving to be a really strong runner,” Gregory said.
Avery Carter also won the 800 (2:04.53) and 1,600 (4:51.44). Gregory said there have been meets where Carter has seemed “to be in a bit of a rut.” Friday was not one of those meets.
“Avery ran incredibly relaxed and confident, like he always has. Hopefully, this is a turning point for him this year - he’s a huge part of our team’s success and is one of the most decorated track athletes in school history,” Gregory said.
The Milford throwers won seven medals across the two events. Garrett Schoen reached the top 10 charts in both the discus (133-4) and the shot put (46-11.5), placing second in both.
Ashlynn Miller was second in the discus at 107-6 and third in the shot put at 33-7.5.
Cash Martin won the pole vault at 14-0 and took a shot at the school record, putting the bar at 15-1.
“His third and final attempt looked good off the ground but he was a little too deep into the pit,” Gregory said.
Colby Rautenberg continued to high jump well. He “unlocked something last week at Wilber,” Gregory said.
After setting a personal best at 6-2 last week, Rautenberg cleared 6-0 easily to win and had two good attempts at 6-4, Gregory said.
Additional top finishes for the Eagle girls were Abby Crabtree, second in the 400 (1:03.42); Emery Newton, second in the triple jump (34-7) and high jump (5-4); Elsa Schweitzer, third in the 3,200 (13:21.76); Emma Porter, third in the 100-meter hurdles (17.08); the 4x400 relay third; and Libbie Reil, third in the long jump (15-10).
For the boys, other top finishers were Isaac Roth, first in the 110-meter hurdles (15.29) and 300-meter hurdles (40.64); Connor Adams, first in the triple jump (41-3) and third in the 200 (23.17); Zeb Reil, first in the long jump (21-2.5); Kaleb Meierdierks, second in the 400 (53.8); the 4x100 and 4x400 relays second; Thomas Belleau, third in the 100 (11.7); and the 4x800 relay third.
Milford track is next in action Friday, April 17, at the Central City Invite. Events start at 1 p.m.
