Eagles third at Harvest of Harmony

The Milford High School Band brought home a third-place trophy from the annual Harvest of Harmony parade in Grand Island Oct. 1.

More than 100 members of the band participated  as one of 98 bands representing high schools, junior high schools, colleges and universities from throughout the state.

High school bands were judged by music professionals in the areas of music, marching and general effect.

Leading the Milford Marching Band this year were drum majorettes Allyson Taylor and Hannah Wittstruck.

Out of thirteen competing schools in Class B, Milford earned third place, following Aurora High School and Adams Central High School, respectively.

“It was a beautiful day for marching,” said Phil Goddard, director of bands at MHS. “Walking through the tunnel before the parade always gives us goosebumps, and the kids love it.”

Goddard thanked all those who offered encouraging comments and cheers and those in the community and downtown businesses who came out to watch the band rehearse in the mornings.

“The kids want to do their best in front of our hometown fans, and that really helps prepare them for this big competition.  Our patrons are the best,” Goddard said.

The band will now turn its attention to preparing for concerts in December and supporting MHS athletic teams with the pep band.
