FCCLA students attend nationals

Frazier is national runner-up in STAR event

Seven students from Milford’s Family, Career and Community Leaders of America Chapter competed in the National STAR competition at the 2023 FCCLA National Leadership Conference in Denver, Colorado, July 2-6.

At the heart of the conference were the Students Taking Action with Recognition (STAR) events. More than 4,300 FCCLA members competed in these events, where they were recognized for their proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills and career preparation.

The following students represented Milford and achieved medal placings against members from across the nation:

Sadie Frazier—Chapter Website Design Level 1, Gold, Top 10 finalist, national runner-up

Holly Hostetler—Sustainability Challenge Level 1, Silver, Top 10, Top 10 finalist, sixth place

Stephen Vance—Teach & Train Level 2, Gold, 11th place

Tasha Anderson and Aubrey Burton—Interpersonal Communications Level 2, Silver, 20th place

Kayla Wilken and Jaycie Stutzman—Chapter Service Portfolio Level 2, Silver, 21st place

The collaboration between youth and adults in managing the events and evaluating participants allowed students to develop real-world skills and gain valuable insights.

STAR events play a pivotal role in supporting student development by enhancing their classroom experience and guiding them towards successful career pathways.

With more than 30 events to choose from, participants have the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge, skills and abilities by actively addressing important issues concerning families, careers or communities.

The students' projects exemplifies their dedication, creativity and commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others. Their accomplishments at the national level is a testament to their hard work, teamwork and unwavering passion.

The conference drew more than 7,900 students, educators, and guests from across the nation.
