Drowning is the number one cause of death for children ages 1-4, and pool season will be here in a matter of months. Learn about pool safety, drowning prevention and steps for saving someone in our Health and Wellness section that will hit the stands on April 10.

Pancake feed for medical expenses April 7

The Goehner Fire Hall is hosting a free will donation pancake feed to benefit Bruce Mavis of Seward due to ongoing medical expenses. The all you can eat breakfast will be on April 7 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Broncos, Bluejays battle on diamond

Centennial hosted Seward April 4 in a battle for baseball bragging rights in Beaver Crossing. Seward was too much for the Broncos, winning the game 16-0. Finn Hochstein, Kolton Loos and Kohltyn LIndau had two hits each for the Jays, and Braiden Herring, Bostyn Happ, Lindau and Carl Taylor drove in two runs each. Ryan Richters had Centennial's only hit, a double to lead off the game. Seward will host Lincoln Lutheran April 6 at 10 a.m., and Centennial is next in action April 8, also against Lincoln Lutheran.

CM falls to Bennington

A six-run first inning for Bennington helped the Badgers to a 12-3 win over Crete-Milford baseball April 4. CM scored its runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Nine CM batters had one hit, with Jeffrey Kuncl and Nick Wendt hitting doubles. CM finishes a five-game week this afternoon against Lincoln Northwest. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m. at Tuxedo Park.

SHS boys' soccer gets win

The Seward boys' soccer team played Nebraska City April 4 in a game rescheduled from earlier in the season and picked up a 3-1 win. The next game for the Bluejays is April 9 at York.

SHS girls fall to Schuyler

The Seward girls' soccer team hosted Schuyler April 4 and fell short 2-1. The Bluejays are next in action April 9 at York.

Golfers play at Pioneers

The Seward golf team competed in the Norris Invitational at Pioneers Golf Course April 4 and finished 10th in the team standings. Matthew Wegman led the team with an 81.
