Seward County officials are expecting about 350 tons of scrap tires to roll into – and then out of – the Seward County Fairgrounds on April 19 and 20.
The county received a $48,050 Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy grant in December and the county contracted with Butler County Landfill, Inc., to haul the tires out of Seward County. Tires will be shredded for alternative daily cover in the landfill.
Tires may be brought to the fairground’s north arena from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on those two days, with these criteria:
Tires must be off rims
Those dropping of tires must provide their name, address and phone number, as well as the number or weight of the tires they brought, and attest that they did not collect a tire fee to dispose of the tires.
They must also provide information on whether the tires came from their farm, home, shop or other locations.
Those bringing large amounts of tires should count tires or weight the load they are dropping off, and may go to a local scale to weigh their load prior to drop off.
