After becoming the first girls’ wrestling state champion in Seward/Milford history in 2025, Lauren Frihauf became the first two-time girls’ state champion Feb. 18.

Frihauf opened the Class A 105-pound bracket by pinning Lily Ross of Bellevue East in 1:16. She pinned Yuritza Mejia of Schuyler in 1:36, then scored a technical fall over Natalie Ramirez of Lexington 16-0 in the final.

That set up a rematch with Madelynn Bohnet of South Sioux City. After a scoreless first period, Coach Andy Sistek had Frihauf choose bottom to start the second.

“Bohnet is really tough on top,” Sistek said. “I was worried. She took bottom and got ridden out and turned.”

The turn, which resulted in nearfall points, gave Bohnet a 2-0 lead going into the third period.

“She (Frihauf) had enough in the tank,” Sistek said.

Bohnet was called for stalling to make the score 2-1. Frihauf eventually worked her way off the bottom and recorded a reversal on a move the team works on in practice to take a 3-2 lead. She held on for the final few seconds to get the win.

“It was cool to see her apply that,” Sistek said of the reversal.

Frihauf finishes her high school career with over 150 wins and 100 pins and a 42-2 record this season. She plans to wrestle at Hastings College next season.

“She is the ultimate competitor,” Sistek said. “Her fire and heart and everything that comes with it – she has a never-give-up attitude.”

Teammate Evelyn Theobald had a tough road at 140 pounds. She lost by pin to Alizon Morales of Schuyler in 3:49 in the opening round, but beat Bryleigh Llyod of Omaha Bryan 4-3 in the first consolation match. She finished the tournament against Kaylee Bedsole of Fremont, who pinned Theobald in 1:35. Theobald’s final season record was 25-10.

“We knew the back side would be tough,” Sistek said. “She had a great career and is a tough competitor.”

Theobald missed time this season with injuries but always had a positive attitude, Sistek said.

“She can hold her head high,” he said.
