Highway 6 project to begin April 1

Posted

Work is expected to begin April 1 on Highway 6 through Milford.

The project by the Nebraska Department of Transporation will reconstruct about 1 mile of the highway and widen it 6 feet on either side.

Construction will run from the railroad crossing on the north side of Milford all the way through town to the west side of F Street.

New curb and gutter will be installed to alleviate drainage problems. Medians will be removed, and turn lanes will be extended on either side of the approach to Southeast Community College.

NDOT also will install new sidewalks, driveways and street lights along the route as needed.

It is working with the city to move water mains and storm sewer lines.

Trees have been removed to accommodate the project, as well.

The project has been under discussion for years, with NDOT first introducing it to the community at an open house in 2021.

A second open house was held last fall to give residents more information.

The project is being paid for by federal and state grants. It is expected to be completed by winter of this year.
