MHS seniors prepare for future college, careers

Milford High School seniors took the first step toward attending college by recently being treated to a full day of Apply2College Day events.

The morning started out with each senior applying to a college or celebrating a military or employment opportunity. Eight college representatives and MHS staff assisted each senior as they applied to one or more colleges of interest.

As seniors completed applications, they were celebrated by ringing a bell for each application while those in attendance cheered them on. Seniors signed banners of each college they applied to which is currently on display in the hallway near the south gym.

Photos were taken of each senior with some of the college pennants they applied to. The smiles of accomplishment and relief of this process helps to make each college process a little easier throughout the year and was rewarded by a cupcake.

Seniors also wrote notes of gratitude to staff members and presented them with cupcakes as a token of their appreciation for helping throughout the years and preparations for life after MHS.

Prior to lunch, the Milford seniors learned etiquette tips for possible job or scholarship interviews or banquets. This life skill was hosted at Pizza Kitchen, prepared with a formal setting and fall foliage.

Students were served the catered meal by MHS staff waiting on them as they practiced their etiquette manners. Cameron Soester, former assistant principal, was a surprise keynote speaker who shared reminders of taking advantage of the opportunities around you, making the most of each situation and having a passion and pursuit for excellence in every aspect of your life.

Seniors later attended sessions on personality traits matching their career areas, creating a ScholarshipQuest account, reviewing available scholarships and concluded the day with multiple lifetime sporting options to practice the importance of reducing stress and managing a healthy lifestyle.
