Milford drops two in tourney

The Milford Post 171 juniors finished their season at the Area B1 tournament in Hickman July 12. Milford lost to Hickman 9-1 in the opener and then fell to Aurora 3-0.

Hickman pitching held Milford’s bats in check July 11, allowing no hits. Milford had three baserunners – two via walks and one hit by a pitch.

Milford scored one in the top of the first. Quinn Zegers led off with a walk, stole second and third and scored on a wild pitch.

Milford had two hits against Aurora – singles by Grant Torson.

Zane Jackson got the start on the mound and pitched six innings, striking out four and allowing five hits. Braden Friedli pitched the final inning.

Milford started the week with a 19-4 loss to Wilber July 7. Friedli had the team’s only hit, but Milford drew seven walks.

Friedli and Mason June each pitched for Milford and combined for five strikeouts.

The juniors finished the season with a 4-17 record.

The seniors had one game in the week, an 8-7 loss to Wilber. Milford gave up five runs in the bottom of the seventh, which gave Wilber the win.

Milford recorded 11 hits in the game, led by Gabe Mach who went 5-5 and drove in three runs. Cole Stutzman was 2-5 with a double.

Stutzman was the starting pitcher and struck out eight in 6.1 innings.

The seniors (3-13) are scheduled to play at Lincoln Lutheran Saturday, July 19, in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
