Milford falls on road

Milford had its chances to move the football against Ashland-Greenwood Sept. 3 but couldn’t get going. The Bluejays, on the other hand, did get going and sent Milford home with a 33-0 loss.

“We couldn’t get the ball to Seth (Stutzman, tight end),” Coach Marty Hingst said. “We needed some big plays.”

The big plays went AG’s way, as the Bluejays cracked the scoreboard with a 63-yard pass play in the first quarter. A seven-yard touchdown run in the second quarter gave AGHS a 13-0 halftime lead.

“We need one score and we’re within one possession,” Hingst said. "It was one of those games where we do the right thing, then have a penalty."

Normally sure-fingered Eagles turned the ball over, and the Bluejays took advantage, adding a touchdown in the third quarter and two more in the fourth.

Milford’s offense was held to 72 yards rushing and 50 passing. Jaxon Weyand picked up 46 yards on the ground and led the defense with six solo tackles and one assist. Cabe Schluckebier took the field for the first time in 2021 and had four solo stops and two assists.

Milford (1-1) is scheduled to host Fillmore Central Friday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m. Hingst said the Panthers have a talented quarterback who can throw the ball and can run, as well.
