The Milford ProStart team traveled to Washington, D.C., for the national competition on May 3 and finished 35th out of 46 teams after a successful year.

“We were so incredibly proud of the team, as they had their best run at the national competition,” Mallory Gregory said. “They plated with 15 seconds left.

“The critiques from the floor and tasting judges were incredibly positive with some awesome suggestions for the students to grow from for next year. ProStart definitely made all students in the competition feel like champions.”

Along with competing, Gregory said the students got to see sights and listen to speakers at the event.

“They got to listen to Mathew Jordan, who was the Chopped champion along with many other CEOs from corporations like Nestle, DirectTV, CocaCola, EcoLab and many more,” she said. “They even got a picture with Tony The Tiger. Students not only left with their best competition run on the floor but networks that will last a lifetime.”

While in D.C., Gregory said students got to visit places around the area, including the Library of Congress, the Holocaust Museum, some of the Smithsonian Museums and the Arlington National Cemetery.

“While in D.C., we were able to get gallery passes to the senate and house from a restaurant owner in Lincoln whose daughter works and has connections in D.C.,” she said. “That was incredible to see.”

Gregory said students got in a lot of sightseeing and met up with another team from Nebraska.

“We crammed in as much sightseeing as possible so students could see and step foot on so much of our nation’s history,” she said. “In addition, our students got to network and know the Nebraska Scottsbluff Management team on this trip. That was a really cool opportunity for our students to unite as Nebraska.”

Overall, Gregory said the trip was great.

“The entire trip was an experience that will be a part of these students’ stories for a lifetime,” she said.
