Milford students get ‘great experience’ at Connect the Dots

On Nov. 9, local students, including Milford High School freshmen and sophomores, were able to participate in the Connect the Dots program at Tuxedo Park in Crete.

Connect the Dots, put on by the Saline County Extension, is a program for freshman or sophomore students as they begin planning for careers. They went through a simulation and found out what education or technical training might be helpful in attaining the career they want and the average salary it might pay.

School Counselor Rose Kenney took the students to the program. She said the simulation gave the students the ability to pursue their career interests after a survey they took. They also got to visit with professionals in the field, choose a career path and figure out what education was needed for that path.

“The simulations were great opportunities to learn about these careers,” Kenney said. “It provided a multitude of experiences that we can’t provide in just one class.”

Students were also able to network with students from other local schools and people in careers they were interested in.

“Some were offered summer jobs,” Kenney said.

Overall, Kenney said Milford’s second year at Connect the Dots went well.

“It’s an excellent opportunity for our students,” she said. “It was a great exploratory experience.”
