A tough tournament at Thornridge Golf Course in Milford ended with Milford second in the team standings.

“EMF got us again,” Coach Dalton Mogul said, adding that the dry weather made for firm greens, and the course played longer than it sometimes does, thanks to the wind.

No one shot better than 81, which was the first-place score, Mogul said.

Zephyr Mowinkel finished fourth with an 84 for Milford. Landon Roth was seventh with an 87, Brodie Roth ninth with an 88 and Zane Jackson 14th with a 92 in his first varsity tournament.

The runner-up team finish was the first time the Eagles have been at the top of the team standings this season.

“Some felt they left some strokes out there,” Mogul said. “The course played harder than we anticipated.”

The Eagles will play next on Thursday, April 24, at the Lincoln Lutheran Invitational at Crooked Creek, which is the district golf course. Teams at the tournament will be some of Milford’s district opponents, Mogul said.

“This is our first year in the tournament. It will be nice to play the district course,” he said.

The varsity lineup may look different again this week, with eight to nine golfers vying for the top five spots, the coach said.

“This is the most competitive group I have seen,” he said.
